We have been battling heavy spiritual warfare to be able to work with the South Sudanese refugees in a refugee camp near the border of South Sudan and Northern Uganda. We have run into many obstacles, but last Friday was rather tragic, yet God’s timing is ALWAYS impeccable. Before heading to the camp on Friday, we were asked by our leaders to pray about whether or not God wanted us to go to the camp that day. I wasn’t certain why, but I knew God spoke very clearly to stay back and evangelize in the city of Kitgum.
The road to get to the camp is slippery and bumpy-not exactly the safest drive.
On the way to the camp, my 5 teammates encountered quite the scene. My two teammates in the front seat witnessed it best; the truck driving toward them lost control and began to flip over and over and over again; they saw a man being thrust in and out of the car window until he was ejected from it; the man landed in a random ditch right in front of where the truck should have officially collapsed, but because of the ditch, the truck halted to a stop (leaving the man uncrushed by the truck). Our team pulled over, and began to break every cultural boundary by instructing the Ugandan male drives what to do about the accident. The team gathered the three Muslim men into their car and drove them to the nearest hospital. The three men are in recovery at the moment, and they were moved to a better hospital in Kampala, Uganda. One of the Muslim men said, “I am amazed at how Christians act”.
My thought is this-
Yes, this was a highly scary and traumatic experience for our team, but at the same time…if we flip the perspective of the story, how unreal does it sound that in the midst of this accident, 3 Muslim men, were met by an approaching vehicle of 5 Christian women counselors.
God’s is so timely: the car flipped in enough time that our car was not affected by the accident, the man’s life was saved by a random ditch in the ground, our team was able to drive the men to the nearest hospital, and save their lives (they were in critical condition), our team was able to demonstrate the heart of God in how we helped them, and I believe that God knew I wouldn’t react well to witnessing that accident; he had a reason for telling me to stay back!
